Nathan Friedman, M.D.

I love outdoor sports - hiking, skiing, my newly adopted sport of surfing... anything I can find. I'm a big traveler and love exploring new parts of the world. I also write and play piano when I need to destress.

Why did you choose UCLA for residency?            

The people were the nicest, most welcoming, and fun squad out of anywhere I visited on the interview trail. UCLA had the strongest combination of great clinical training, involved and enthusiastic faculty, and happiest residents. I knew it was the right place for me after the interview dinner!

What are your areas of interest within EM or future career plans?          

I came in thinking I might want to do toxicology, but the best part about EM is that not specializing is totally fine. I may end up pursuing tox as an area of interest, or I may go straight into practice - the road is wide open.

What is your favorite place to visit/thing(s) to do in/memory from living in LA?

I'm new to LA, but so far I've loved exploring the hiking trails around the city and have recently taken up surfing. If you see me with a big welt on my head, I got hit in the head by my board, because I suck at it.

If you have never lived here before, what are you most excited about?    I'm most excited to explore a totally new city that has everything to offer at once.

What else do you do in your free time? What hobbies do you have?      

I love the outdoors, especially outdoor sports. You can find me hiking, trying to surf, convincing people to go skiing, or running on the beach. I'm also a pilot and like exploring places from the sky.
