As an academic medical center attached to an internationally renowned university, our faculty and residents are regularly approached to assist with medical care in the local community and for special events. Some of the many examples include:
In the summer of 2015, UCLA hosted the Special Olympics on its campus and Dr. Lynne McCullough, Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine at UCLA, led a group of volunteer residents and faculty to staff a clinic serving the 3,000 athletes and coaches participating.
Every year, Dr. Mark Morocco, Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine at UCLA, leads a team of volunteer residents and faculty to provide medical care for the Painted Turtle Camp Challenge Bike Ride, a race supporting programs for children with life-threatening illnesses.
Dr. Matthew Waxman, Associate Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine at Olive View-UCLA, continues to serve as Medical Director for the FYF Music Festival, leading a group of residents, nurse practitioners, nurses and EMS to provide medical care during one of the largest annual music festivals in Downtown LA.
